What's Happening in Jefferson, LA…

Jefferson invited to learn the secrets of bonsai growing

The skill of crafting and caring for bonsais has been practiced for centuries, and some of the secrets of this art will be shared as part of a Jefferson area workshop.

The participants in this event, which is being brought to the community by the New Orleans Botanical Garden, will include hands-on instruction. The students in the class will walk away with knowledge they can use to keep their very own bonsai tree alive for a long time to come.

Junipers will be used for this horticultural session, and those who register are asked to bring an apron as well as gardening gloves and a pair of sharp-bladed scissors. Training wire, soil, and the tree itself will be provided. This learning opportunity will be led by Jim Osborne, who has been the recipient of the Vaughan Banting award to recognize his skill when it comes to this art form.

The fee for this event is $35 each, and 15 spaces are available. It will be held at 5 Victory Avenue in New Orleans, and instructional manuals for the participants in an occasion such as this can be prepared by a local printing services provider.

This class has been scheduled for the morning of June 30 and will begin at 9:00 am. Additional information about this offering has been added to the organizer’s website.
