Savvy cooks know that using fresh herbs can transform a dish from ordinary to one that’s special. The New Orleans Botanical Garden will be welcoming Jefferson amateur chefs for an event that will explore its beds of herbs and give tips for how they can be utilized in the kitchen.
The garden has joined forces with the Herb Society of America to offer tours of its herb, vegetable and salvia plantings. A visit to its newly installed “Kitchen in the Garden” will also be included in the activity.
The participants will be treated to a chance to sample a variety of herbs so they can learn about their flavors and how they can be utilized in different dishes. They can talk to the herbalists and ask questions, and there will even be live cooking demonstrations where the participants can discover how herbs can be used to make warming autumn soups.
Attending an event like this can provide inspiration for home chefs who want to expand their repertoire. The organizers of the function noted that each participant will be given a copy of the recipes as well as other handouts, and Stationery printers can provide these sorts of materials.
The New Orleans Botanical Garden will be welcoming visitors for this exploration of its herb and vegetable gardens on October 30. It is free for the public to participate.
