What's Happening in Jefferson, LA…

Jefferson area activity to give nod to native plants

A Jefferson area initiative that works with the public to spread the word about the benefits of native plants has scheduled an activity that will add a touch of beauty to local gardens.

The Native Plant Initiative of New Orleans works to increase the number of native species being used in landscape and other plantings, and one of its projects is set to take place in early October. It has partnered with the University of New Orleans, and will be hosted at 2000 Lakeshore Drive.

The organization has scheduled a plant giveaway, and it will see members of the public go home with turk’s cap lily and partridge pea plants they can install in their own perennial beds. The lilies will be suited to part shade, while the peas may prefer a sunny locale. When they stop by to pick theirs up, members of the public can pay a visit to the site’s native plant garden for inspiration, and they can also meet local gardening experts and ask questions about their green friends.

Choosing native plants offers many benefits, and a giveaway will introduce them to the gardening public. Stationery printers can prepare everything from care sheets to plant ID tags, and these can all be custom designed.

The University of New Orleans will be the venue for this nod to natives, and it will be held on October 1st. It will begin at 9:00 am.
