A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held for the new Jefferson Terrace Academy by the architects of the school, CSRS | Tillage and GraceHebert Architects, and the East Baton Rouge Parish School System (EBRPSS).
Grades pre-kindergarten through eight will be able to attend the school, which will have state-of-the-art collaborative and educational technology workspaces. Printing techniques such as Banner printing can be used at such sites to inform the community of any new projects, and provide more details about facilities and completion dates.
The cost for the new school will be $32,887,041, made possible from the renewal of the one-cent sales tax. It will measure 125,000 square and be able to accommodate 900 students. A media center, modern learning communities, STEAM labs, and a courtyard in the center of the school to facilitate outdoor learning are some of the features of the new school.
Partner of GraceHerbert Architects, David Hebert, said the new school will enable students to have a 21st-Century learning environment with flexible classroom space and a great deal of natural light. The surrounding community will also benefit from the school as there will be new athletic fields and a walking trail.
Principal of Jefferson Terrace, Zane Whittington, added that the new design will enable the school to serve more students in a fun and safe environment.
