Baton Rouge recently hosted the Cannonballs Across America campaign, as three cyclists biked into town to raise awareness and money for pediatric cancer research.
The head swim coach of Louisiana State University (LSU), Dave Geyer, joined the cyclists – Zach Major, Justin Crew, and Keagan Finley – as the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s office escorted them into Baton Rouge. More friends, family and members of the LSU swim team joined them as they stopped at Chick-Fil-A. Finley is a member of the LSU swim team and had a sibling who passed away from a rare form of brain cancer.
The cyclists began their ride on May 17 in Palo Alto, California. As they crossed the country, they visited hospitals and met with patients affected by brain cancer and their families. While they were in Baton Rouge, they also stopped by Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital before heading to their final destination of Daytona Beach, Florida, where they plan to arrive by tomorrow (July 3). Banner printing can be used along such routes to help raise awareness about illnesses and encourage monetary donations.
Once the campaign is completed, additional events and activities will follow to raise money for pediatric cancer research. There will be a Mardi Gras children’s parade and a memorial softball fundraiser, the proceeds of which will go towards clinical trials and innovative research methods for pediatric cancer.
