A firm is being sought by the Capital Area Road and Bridge District (CARB-D) to conduct studies required by the federal government on the construction of a new bridge in Baton Rouge.
The recently created CARB-D was awarded $5 million from a state surplus by the legislature to find new and innovative ways to fund a third bridge crossing the Mississippi River. Senator Rick Ward, who established CARB-D last year, said that building this bridge is very important.
However, such construction is not allowed by the federal government without doing any research such as including data about environmental impact and other issues, making it research not about whether Baton Rouge needs such a bridge. Other such projects in the area were shown not to be viable when the requisite studies failed to gather the information needed by the federal government.
Ward said that taking such tangible steps shows people that progress is being made which helps to build momentum and add credibility to the project. The use of flyer printing services can be helpful in informing residents about such steps and how they lead to an end result.
The completion of the result will enable the state to determine the location of the bridge and its construction dates. The last hurdle will be to find funding resources for this third option to cross the river.
