Annual festival highlights a traditional instrument

The annual Lagniappe Dulcimer Fete is taking place this March, creative three days of tuneful entertainment.

The event is an acoustic folk music festival and is set to feature free workshops and concerts. The first evening will feature a free ‘Jam on the Mississippi River Levee’. Throughout the festival, there will be beginner and intermediate workshops on instruments such as the dulcimer, the Native American flute, miscellaneous percussion, the ukulele, and the mandolin. Among the instructors will be Marsha Harris, Denise Guillory, and Quintin Stephens.

In addition, several music vendors will be on hand to sell a variety of instruments and accessories. Food will also be available over the three days from a number of concessions.

Vendors are likely to come from all over the area to sell their merchandise at this Baton Rouge event. Many of them may invest in services such as poster and sign printing to make their booths more appealing to passersby.

The Lagniappe Dulcimer Fete is being held at the West Baton Rouge Museum from March 12 to 15. Fees are $95 for a weekend player and $20 for a non-player, or $45 per day for players and $15 for non-players and jammers. The Jam on the Mississippi will take place on March 12 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
