The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) has announced 10 outstanding teachers in the state who are semi-finalists for the Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award for 2024. Among the nominees is Deanna Landru, from Southgate Independent Elementary School.
News of such special recognition is often disseminated throughout a city and the region with poster printing.
One teacher from each of the elementary, middle, and high schools will be named Teacher of the Year in their category, and one of these teachers will be named as the overall Teacher of the Year.
A panel of veteran education professionals selected the semi-finalists based on their application scores. The application included teaching experiences, teaching philosophies, and involvement in the communities of the teachers as well as letters of recommendation. Interviews will be conducted with the 10 semi-finalists, along with their application scores, to determine the Teacher of the Year in each category. The 2024 Kentucky Teacher of the Year will be selected from the three finalists and this person will represent the state in the national Teacher of the Year Competition.
Jason E. Glass, Kentucky Commissioner of Education, said that each of the 10 teachers is dedicated to the school community, to uplifting their students, and to the profession of education.
A ceremony in Frankfort on Wednesday, September 13 will be held to announce the winners in each category and the selected winner from the state.
