The Covington Central Riverfront neighborhood has selected eight finalists to move forward in the creation of a landmark public art installation in the area.
The public art installation will anchor the Covington Central Riverfront site, which covers 23 acres. Featured in the new neighborhood will be office space, housing, a restored street grid, retail space, and places for the public to gather. The art installation may be of interest to those in nearby Southgate.
There were 25 submissions received over the summer. Residents of Covington, stakeholders from the city, and local art experts made up a panel that reviewed each submission to narrow down the finalists to eight.
The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr. Foundation, ArtsWave, The Center for Great Neighborhoods, and The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center have coordinated this competition. Executive Director of The Carnegie, Matt Distel, expressed his pleasure with the diversity and range of the submissions.
The selection process is also taking into consideration input from the community. Each finalist will present their work, explain what inspired them, and share why their piece would be a significant contribution to the Central Riverfront neighborhood. The presentations will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30 at The Carnegie. Flyer printing can be used to inform residents and those in neighboring communities of such opportunities to participate in the selection process.
