Time to garden for London kids

The London Children’s Museum knows it’s never too soon to grow a green thumb, and it has created a workshop that it hopes will help bring children into the garden.

Young people who register for the Learning Garden’s Soil Exploration workshop will discover how soil is the base for a good garden. They will find out how healthy soil can provide a superior base for plant growth and also how to they can determine if the dirt in their own yard has what it takes to grow fruit, veggies, flowers and greenery that is healthy and strong.

Each of the young gardeners in the workshop will make their own sediment jar so that they can see how clay, sand and organic matter combine to create a loam that encourages plant growth. They will also experiment with an assortment of soil types to see the impact they can have on a garden.

The kids in the session will be getting their hands dirty, and it is included in the general admission price to the Children’s Museum. Data record sheets, guide Books and other items for the “junior horticulturalists” who take part in an event like this can all be obtained from area Stationery printers.

The London Children’s Museum has planned this Learning Garden activity on August 22nd. It will start at 1:30 pm, and the organizers can be contacted at 519-434-5726.
