London gets ready for sixth annual softball tournament

Since 2011, a day-long softball tournament has been the London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce's most popular events.

This year's tournament is scheduled for August 27, at the Laurel County Fairground. The Chamber of Commerce is currently accepting registrations from teams who want to play.

According to Michael Sliter, an organizer of the tournament, the goal is to have at least 10 teams registered. The tournament can accommodate up to 12 teams. Any more teams and the organizers will have to extend the event to multiple days, which they would rather not do.

Organizers of tournaments can use printing services to encourage people to sign up and to spread the word about the actual event.

The double-elimination tournament begins with three games, taking place on three fields at the fairground. As teams are eliminated, the tournament drops to two fields, and finally to one field for the final game.
The registration deadline is August 15 and the cost to enter is $250 per team.

Last year, Laurel Grocery Company took home first place in the tournament. Jackson Energy Cooperative came in second and Transamerica Agency Network took third place.

The softball games aren't the only attraction during the tournament. The Job Shop is sponsoring a number of inflatables for kids. A homerun derby is also scheduled during the event. In case people get hungry, the London Rotary Club will be selling snacks and drinks throughout the day.
