London gardeners invited to place plant orders

An event planned with the thrifty gardener in mind is right around the corner for London, and as it will be hosted by the cooperative extension University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment, the public can count on purchasing some top-quality plants.

This annual plant sale includes a selection of small fruits, as well as cultivars of asparagus and onions. They have been carefully selected based upon their ability to do well in local conditions, and it will give both home gardeners and growers a chance to add some new varieties to their beds.

Two different varieties of strawberries will be on offer, as will blackberries, raspberries, and two varieties of cultivated blueberries (at least two are needed for cross pollination).

As well as the plants, small-scale growers and hobby fruit tree growers may wish to place an order for root stock, which can be used for grafting. There is one variety of pear and four varieties of apple, and questions about these can be directed to 606-864-4167. Including tip sheets with each order at this sort of event may go down well, and area Stationery printers will be happy to provide them.

The deadline to place a plant order will be March 19, and they can be dropped off at 200 County Extension Road. A plant order form and other information about this activity can be found on the office’s website.
