Local restaurant reopens after closing
Lexington’s Alfalfa, which closed several months ago, has reopened with new owners, reviving a legacy that dates back to 1973.
Tiffany Bellfield El-Amin and her husband Wail El-Amin are the new owners. They plan to serve the same menu items, some new recipes, and gluten-free recipes. The menu is vegetarian.
The restaurant plans to support local farmers and products by buying local produce, and to open the kitchen to local chefs. Tiffany has been a food organizer with Community Farm Alliance, and using the restaurant, she wants to help local farmers and producers with food distribution and promotion.
Historically, the restaurant is known for its cultural diversity, attracting all types of people from young hippies to business professionals. The restaurant has a small retail shop that sells juices, teas, and smoothies.
The breakfast menu will have biscuits and gravy, eggs Benedict, omelettes, buckwheat pancakes, French toast, and breakfast sandwiches. Beverages served are coffee, tea, juice, and soft drinks.
Along with vegetarian burgers, special entrees are twisted red beans and rice, spicy black beans, and chickpea curry stew. There will be traditional and gluten-free chocolate chip cookies, peach cobbler, and country cake and sauce. Flyer printing can be used to promote restaurants like this.
The restaurant plans to be open six days a week, and diners should call for hours, dine-in info, and takeout. It is located at 141 East Main Street.
