Workshop looks into urban forestry

The Kentucky Arborists Association is putting together a workshop to address issues related to urban forestry.

The workshop discusses insights from a newly developed storm planning guide, offering practical tips from those experienced in navigating the challenges of storms, including securing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursements and replanting urban forests during recovery.

Karen E. Firehock, co-founder of the national Green Infrastructure Center Inc., directs attention to resiliency in forests through her extensive experience in green infrastructure planning projects. She has conducted studies on coastal forest resiliency, the role of trees in stormwater uptake across 12 cities, and a comprehensive analysis of intact forested habitats in South Carolina.

Darren Green, the Landscape Architect for Alexandria, Louisiana, since 2001, brings practical expertise in managing public trees and coordinating landscape improvements. He has served in leadership roles for various organizations, including the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Brian Osterman, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, currently serves as the Branch Manager of the Field Operations Branch. With extensive experience in environmental emergency work, Osterman oversees operations across regional offices and coordinates field inspections and investigations at various facilities.
