The 21C Museum Hotel in Lexington has recently added The Harmon Room, dedicated to the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit.
The room in the hotel has the design and color scheme of rooms filmed in the series, and was designed by Isabel Ladd and Lucy Jones in an effort to market the Netflix show and Lexington, since it is filmed here.
The room has vintage furniture, custom wallpaper, antiques, and art, as well as a chess set for hotel guests to use. A gift shop sells chess sets for visitors to buy. Above the bed is a chessboard installation representing Beth Harmon’s chess games.
VisitLex, a tourist organization, has created a tour with several attractions from the show in Lexington. When guests book the Harmon Room at the hotel, they get a free guide to these attractions and a tote bag. The tour includes Lexington department stores, hotels, drug stores, restaurants, and the local University of Kentucky.
The 21C Hotel has a free pop culture art exhibit that will run until April, featuring pop stars, superheroes, toys, with paintings, graphics, murals, and photos found throughout the hotel. Printers design and provide brochure printing for businesses like this.
Appointments are needed to see the art gallery, and social distancing is practiced. Advance reservations are needed to stay at the hotel, which is located at 167 West Main Street.
