National Endowment for The Arts funds Lexington art projects

Six Lexington art organizations and projects were funded by the National Endowment For the Arts. The amount totaled to $215,000.

Mayor Linda Gorton says that these grants offer new opportunities for artists and contribute to Lexington’s diverse art community.

Community Ventures received $75,000 for local artists to create and install art works in Lexington that celebrate the history of the east end neighborhood. They will install artwork in numerous locations in and near the MET.

The Met is a mixed-use facility with 75,000 square feet of space for retail, restaurants and companies. It is located in the heart of East Lexington.

CivLex received $75,000 to hire three artists to work in government agencies. They will work with local artists and create more artist engagement for artists that create art for government agencies.

Breaking the Bronze received a $20,000-dollar grant. It is a public art program that installs arts that honors the contribution of Lexington women in the area of women’s rights and the vote.

Barbara Grygutis an international sculptor will develop a monument that will be installed in August celebrating women’s right to vote.

The other Lexington organizations that were awarded grants were the Lexington Children’s Theater with $15,000, Lexington Public Library received $20,000; and Living Arts & Science Center for $10,000. Lexington has print shops that design and provide banner printing for organizations like this.
