Lexington celebrates Parks and Recreation Month

July is the official month to celebrate National Parks and Recreation facilities. The Division of Parks & Recreation in the City of Lexington has a plan in place to mark the occasion.

Every Friday throughout the month of July, Lexington Parks & Recreation will team up with a restaurant to make a special meal or drink. A part of the proceeds made from the sales of these gourmet food items and drinks will be used to fund tree-planting programs located around the city’s public areas and parks.

The organizers have already made a list of the restaurants that will be involved along with the special dish they will be serving up on the day. The list also includes the location where the tree-planting funds will be used. Participating outlets could use banner printing to let the public know.

Rayann’s Popcorn gets the series started today (July 1) and it will be serving strawberries & cream popcorn to fund tree-growing efforts in Castlewood Park.

Next Friday, July 8, West Sixth Brewing will be serving a special prickly pear beer to support the trees of Coolavin Park.

For July 15, the Futile Bakery will make blackberry doozie for the trees of Elizabeth Street Park. The restaurant on July 22 will be Sorella Gelateria serving blackberry gelato to aid Woodland Park’s trees.

The series concludes on July 29, when A Cup of Commonwealth will be serving a special coffee blend to help plant trees in Northeastern Park.
