Keeneland track in Lexington will soon open special horse race tours-- the year-round tour, back stretch tour, and a free children’s club for ages under 12 with special activities.
Year-Round Tours are available on March 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 28, and 31 at 8:30 am. Children under 12 are free. On this one-hour guided tour, they visit the Paddock, an area where the horses are exercised and saddled by the grooms.
The tour stops at the Grandstand designed to seat 3,849 visitors for the horse races. Sometime the tour stops to see the Sales Pavilion where horses are sold. The tour ends at the library. It has the largest collection of information and photos about thoroughbred horses.
The Back-Stretch Tour will be held on March 19, 20, 26, 27 at 8:30 am. The tour follows the racehorse’s daily routine. They will visit the barn to see the horses being groomed, and visit the training track and main track to see their morning workouts . The tour stops at the racing office where races are arranged. These tours are 90 minutes suited to age 13 and over.
The Keenland Kids Club will have an Easter Egg Hunt on March 21 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center with cookie decorating, pony rides, Easter bunny photos, and an egg hunt. Kid under 12 can join the club free. Printers often design and provide banner printing for events like this.
