Junk percussive show STOMP returns to Lexington

The award-winning and internationally presented performance STOMP will return to Lexington next month.

Since its last appearance in the city, it has been remixed and revamped, with many new sections of the show being added and updated to make sure that even returning audience members have something to be excited about.

The original incarnation of the performance was a ‘junkpercussion duo’ called The Urban Warriors. This group featured Luke Cresswell and a drummer from Liverpool, UK named Benjamin Frederick Tin. Much like what STOMP would become, performances of this band had them beating percussive rhythms on pieces of junk.

The first official STOMP was created in the UK in the year 1991 by Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, who also directed, produced, and financed the show. It premiered at the Edinburgh Assembly Rooms and won several awards.

From there, the original cast and their many offshoot groups performed around the world and appeared in many television shows such as Sesame Street and Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. An IMAX movie, ‘Pulse: A Stomp Odyssey’, was also created and screened.

Those interested in seeing this display of creative instrumentation, miming, and punky, urban settings can visit the Lexington Opera House page. Shows like this are also often promoted with flyer printing. The show will have performances on February 24 and 25, at 7:30 pm.
