The Governor School of the Arts, usually held at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, will have a three-week virtual art program this year. It is program of the Kentucky Performing Arts organization.
Theprogram gathers young artist across Kentucky every summer at the University of Kentucky for intensive art instruction. It offers lectures, special art performances, and cross discipline classes in art techniques. The program connects students with Kentucky arts and culture, says Governor Andy Beshear.
The Governor School of Arts Program will offer online instruction from June 29 to July 27 using video conferencing platforms. The program will have master classes, seminars, creative projects, and lectures.
There will be instruction in several subjects with University of Kentucky staff and other professionals, includingcreative writing, architecture and design, dance, drama, film, photography, instrumental music, theater, visual arts, and voice. Students meet Monday through Friday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
The students will have one to one session with teachers and meetings with guest artists. One of the artists will be Kevin Olusola; an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer. There will also be a performance by Martha Redbone, a blues and soul singer.
Students will be assigned a residential advisor and meet virtually in groups to develop friendships.
