The Open Gates to Bluegrass Living Garden Tour returns this year, for the enjoyment of Lexington residents, and in support of postsecondary education in related fields.
Organized by the Lexington Council Garden Club, the 2021 tour will feature eight gardens, selected for their unique features, and overall beauty. The featured gardens are located throughout Lexington at:
• 856 Meadowbrook Drive
• 2121 and 2130 Hart Court
• 2181 Sallee Drive
• 3153 and 3184 Blenheim Way
• 210 Walton Avenue
• 429 Kingsway Drive
There will also be a bonus garden open for viewing at Ashland Terrace, located at 475 South Ashland Avenue. A full color tour flyer is available on the Garden Club’s website, and flyer printing may also be used to promote the event throughout the city.
Participants are asked to guide themselves through the tour, although personnel from the Council Garden Club will be on site at each location to answer questions and provide the location’s highlights. In year’s past, participants have had the privilege of viewing a fairy garden, a rain garden, and a chicken coop.
Tickets cost $20 per person, with proceeds in support of garden projects throughout the city, as well as scholarships for students studying landscaping, forestry, environmental studies, agriculture and horticulture. Tickets may be purchased from supporting businesses, including Peggy’s Gifts and Accessories, King’s Garden Center, Pemberton’s Greenhouses, Wilson’s Garden Center, Michler’s, Springhouse Gardens, and Best of Flowers. Tickets may also be purchased at the gardens before the start of the tour.
