Classic board game gets Lexington twist

Last week, Mayor Linda Gorton was accompanied by Tim Barney from Top Trumps and the iconic Mr. Monopoly to unveil the newest version of Monopoly: the Lexington Edition.

Lexington was among approximately 30 other towns and cities to feature in new special editions of the board game, replacing the original squares of Atlantic City with their own array of historic landmarks, cultural sites, local businesses, and charitable organizations.

The newly designed game celebrates all the things people cherish about Lexington. Even the Chance and Community Chest cards have been tailored to showcase uniquely Lexington-centric experiences. For instance, a player might encounter situations like winning a gift voucher to use at Awesome Inc. or having to donate some funds to The Hope Centre. A slightly different Logo Design can be used to let people know about a new twist on an old favorite.

Keeneland is the priciest property on the board, demanding a hefty sum of $400 Monopoly bucks, while Transylvania appears to be a steal at just $180.

In 1935, the iconic Monopoly board game was initially introduced and quickly gained widespread recognition, becoming a household name. Over the decades, it has undergone numerous updates, versions, and editions, while retaining its position as the leading property trading and purchasing board game on the market.

Lexington was the only place in Kentucky to feature among these new local editions. The game is readily accessible both online and at local retailers.
