A native plant symposium is in the works in Schererville for this autumn, helping the town’s residents learn more about native plant species and their benefits.
The Gibson Woods Wild Ones 10th Biennial Native Plant Symposium is right around the corner in Schererville, providing a chance for residents to enjoy the outdoors and learn new things as the seasons shift. The symposium will focus on how homeowners’ yards are ecosystems and touch on the steps people can take to help it thrive.
Guests will enjoy a continental breakfast upon arrival, followed by three speakers taking the stage to share their knowledge and expertise about the native plant species in Schererville. Kevin Wiener will discuss the Jewels of Undergrowth, Mike Weis will talk about Oak Savana Garden Design, and Rebecca Koets will shed light on the food chain that exists beneath our feet. Brochure printing can help organizers provide an agenda to registered guests at such events.
A 45-minute lunch break and shopping window will also be part of the agenda. Lunch options include several types of wraps, berries, and harvest vegetables. Small group discussions will also be held to bring participants together.
The St. John Township Community Center in Schererville will host the symposium. It will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 17. Tickets are available online for $45 for Wild Ones members and $55 for non-members.
