Fun run comes to Hebron

Hebron residents who enjoy running might want to attend an upcoming fun run happening next month.

The Jennie Hamilton Memorial Trail Run will take place at Stoney Run County Park, where participants will find a five-mile route that includes a chance to cross a pond. The race is a traditional event run on a trail, rather than a street, and is timed.

Since the race is a trail run, participants should expect the conditions typically found in nature including standing water, insects, and muddy areas. At the end of the race, runners have the choice of crossing a pond. Those who would prefer not to get wet can follow a detour, which will add a short distance, about 0.10 miles, to the run. Organizers say they will mark the course with arrow Signs at turns, and with flags. Markers enhance this type of race, and can be found at local Print shops.

Runners will find Gatorade and water at an aid station at about a three-mile distance. Refreshments will be available to everyone after the race, and every registrant will receive a water bottle. Park facilities allow for a change of clothes after the run.

Participants will receive a stock when they cross the finish line, which will be used for scoring. The overall male and female winners, plus the top three finishers in each age group, will receive medals.

The run is the perfect way to celebrate Memorial Day, and takes place on May 25. A post-race party is planned.
