In the area around Oakbrook Terrace, there are several volunteer opportunities for those who want to give some of their time over the next few weeks, whether helping families buying Christmas trees or managing deliveries on a nonprofit basis.
At the B. R. Ryall YMCA of Northwestern DuPage County in Glen Ellyn, volunteers are needed to help with selling trees in the Christmas tree lot. This is one of the YMCA’s largest fundraisers and proceeds from the sale of trees go to its scholarship program, which provides childcare and memberships at a discount for families in need.
The tree lot is open until December 24 with hours Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am through 9:00 pm and on Sunday from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Assistance is needed not only with selling trees but greeting customers and helping load their trees onto their cars, keeping the tree lot safe and clean, opening it in the morning, and closing it at night.
Ten Thousand Villages, located in Glen Ellyn, also needs volunteers in its nonprofit store. Assistants are needed to unpack deliveries and check orders, meet and greet customers, help with displays of the items being sold, and work at the cash register.
