Renowned artwork opens nears Oakbrook Terrace

A new exhibit of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel is currently opened in Oakbrook Center. Residents of nearby Oakbrook Terrace will not want to miss this special immersive art display.

The exhibit features life-sized, exact reproductions of the frescoes on the ceiling at the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. Organizers of this exhibit describe it as taking a journey through the life of Michelangelo and being able to appreciate the size of the work. A special photographic technique was used that reproduces the look and feel of the original work.

Visitors will be able to engage with the artwork in an up-close manner, and see every brushstroke, detail, and color of the 34 frescoes. There is informative signage accompanying each display and audio guides are available for rent. Most likely special printing services have been hired to create guidebooks and other materials that visitors can purchase to remember such experiences.

The experience can take between 60 to 90 minutes allowing visitors to go through the exhibit at their own pace. Cost for viewing the exhibit is $20 for adults with family packages and special rates for seniors, students, and those in the military. Hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The exhibit is located on the lower level of the old Sears building.

The exhibit runs through Sunday August 15.
