Oakbrook Terrace neighbor to hold special race

A new race will be coming to Flossmoor next month in which many from nearby Oakbrook Terrace will want to participate.

The Hidden Gem Half Marathon is being sponsored by Flossmoor’s Future, a non-profit organization whose mission is to build a sense of pride in the community and highlight the many features of the village that make it an attractive suburb in which to work, live, and play. Tom Dobrez, one of the organizers of the event, said the village is a “hidden gem,” and hence the name of the race.

Dobrez added that once the idea for the race came about the village worked actively together to make the race come to fruition. Flyer printing can be used for events such as this one to promote them throughout the region.

Nicholas Quirke of Homewood designed to race route, and the Chicago Runner's Association has certified and sanctioned the route. Those who participate in the race will run by every park, school, church, and attraction in the village, including its well-known sculpture garden.

Dobrez said that participants will receive a special goodie bag, offering discounts at local shops and restaurants, and a free beer from Flossmoor Station which is creating its own brew for the occasion.

The date for the race is Saturday, September 7 to coincide with the training schedule for the Chicago marathon.
