Oak Brook to bid for Amazon headquarters
As McDonald’s plans to move its corporate headquarters to Chicago, officials from Oak Brook are hoping that its former location will be a good fit for Amazon as it searches for a second headquarters. This headquarters plans to provide 50,000 new jobs, which would require recruitment from nearby Oakbrook Terrace and other local areas.
Chief executive officer and president of the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce, Valentina Tomov, believes there is a good chance that Oak Brook could get this opportunity as it has great access to highways, is close to the airport and a major urban center, and is very friendly to businesses with no municipal property taxes and low taxes.
Tomov added that representatives from McDonald’s want to work with local officials to try to sell the property at its current location to Amazon.
The bid is being worked on with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development and Choose DuPage.
Tomov sees many advantages in the McDonald’s location. Oak Brook is close to Chicago yet there is still a lot of green space, which she said is one feature that Amazon is looking for.
Print companies could be used by officials such as those in Oak Brook to create various materials to get the word out that the village is interested in bidding for the second headquarters and to garner support in the community.
