Now that McDonald’s has moved to Fulton Market in Chicago, one of its two office buildings in Oak Brook is under consideration for replacement.
Hines, a developer based in Houston, has a preliminary agreement to purchase and tear down one of the buildings (the one at McDonald’s Plaza) and replace it with a combination of office, residential, hotel, and retail space. Greg Van Schaack, a spokesperson for Hines, said this would create a new center in the village of Oak Brook, which many in nearby Oakbrook Terrace would want to enjoy as well.
JLL has been hired by McDonald’s to sell its two buildings. The one in Oak Brook, which is its actual corporate headquarters, is still for sale. It includes more than 330,000 square feet of office space, a Hyatt with 218 rooms, and its Hamburger University.
Scott Miller, a broker for JLL, said his company and Hines are collaborating on what is most suitable for the McDonald’s Plaza site. Miller added that the prior experience which Hines has in creating large mixed-use developments, their reputation, and their financial capacity enables McDonald’s to feel comfortable in placing the property in their hands.
