Construction has begun on the new headquarters of Ace Hardware Corporation by Skender and will transform what was once the corporate campus of McDonald’s in Oak Brook.
The new headquarters will be a vibrant and modern workplace and span 250,000 square feet. It will have 150 conference rooms, open workstations, many spaces for collaboration, 12 cafes, and other amenities. This new space may provide new employment opportunities for residents of nearby Oakbrook Terrace.
The first floor will be a parking garage but will also have an amenity suite with a dining center with commercial kitchen, a fitness center, multi-purpose room, large cafeteria, and conference center. Such features can be promoted with flyer printing to attract individuals and businesses in the area to consider using such spaces.
The build-out will keep many of the original architectural elements of the original building, which was designed by Dirk Lohan, grandson of the well-renowned architect Mies van der Rohe. There will be a large atrium in the center and sky wells that will enable natural light to flow into the building. There will be demountable conference and office fronts, which will create soundproof, functional, and visually private office spaces, while also providing greater opportunities for reconfiguration in the future.
Senior Vice President of Ace Hardware, Kane Calamari, expressed excitement about working with Skender to modernize the campus to better serve the needs of the company’s growing business.
