German holiday market comes to Oakbrook

A suburban location of the Christkindlmarket that started in Chicago is coming to Oakbrook Center, just a short distance from Oakbrook Terrace, later this month.

It will be located near the Crate & Barrel at the Village Green. Vendors will have a wide selection of gifts and ornaments for the holiday season, including nutcrackers, cuckoo clocks, wooden toys, and sweaters. Food options cover everything from bratwurst to chocolate-dipped strawberries on skewers, and from doughnut-like churros with a range of fillings, to cheese pretzels. The market is inspired by the open-air Christmas markets in Germany, the first of which began in Nuremberg in 1545.

As is the case for the Christkindlmarket in downtown Chicago, there will be the traditional mug but in a slightly different design. The exact look of the mug will be announced shortly before opening day of the market.

A variety of entertainment is planned for the market, with the first performance being the Barefoot Hawaiian Dancers on two days after opening day from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

The market will open on November 27 at 11:00 am and be open Thursdays through Sundays until December 14, and then daily from December 17 through December 24. Most likely the Christkindlmarket Oakbrook is turning to banner printing companies to create colorful and festive Banners that can be displayed throughout the city to generate enthusiasm.
