The annual Joseph Jefferson Awards, which will be held for the 48th year in Oakbrook Terrace later this month, will pay tribute to Michael Halberstam.
Halberstam is the Artistic Director of the Writers Theatre and is being honored for his theatrical contributions to and accomplishments in the theaters in the Chicago area for the past 25 years, having held the position since 1992.
Michael Weber will direct the ceremony and Merril Prager will produce it. Emcees for the ceremony will be James Earl Jones II and Janet Ulrich Brooks, both of whom are actors from the Chicago area. The ceremony will feature live performances from nominated musicals.
The Jeff Awards recognize outstanding achievement in theatre in the Chicago area. Halberstam has received seven nominations this year and the Writers Theatre has received over 100 Jeff Award nominations and earned 26 awards over the years.
An article on BroadwayWorld.com notes that the artistic leadership of Halberstam has enabled the Writers Theatre to become known across the country for its excellence in theatrical productions, providing the finest interpretations of both classic and contemporary theater.
This Equity Jeff Awards Ceremony for 2016 will take place on Monday, October 17. The Joseph Jefferson Awards Committee might benefit from the assistance of a local printing company to promote the achievements of Halberstam and the ceremonies by means of Posters and Banners.
