Monica Affleck, 99, of River Forest, was recently given a gift card for 99 ice cream cones from McDonald’s, the headquarters of which are in Oakbrook Terrace.
Although she is an aficionado of McDonald’s soft serve cones and has had hundreds of them in her lifetime, for the past two years, she has eaten one every day for the past two years.
Her daughter, Jane Morocco, said her mother’s obsession with the cones started when the both of them would go to the Morton Arboretum many years ago. Affleck is a retired teacher from the Chicago Public Schools and eats an ice cream cone a day even if the weather is bitter cold.
McDonald’s honored Affleck at a special ceremony in downtown Chicago, which was also attended by her daughter.
Morocco said that her mother likes the taste and soft texture, and at her age, she lets her have as much as she wants as she feels she has earned it. Morocco brings the cones to her mother if she decides to stay in for the day, to ensure she gets her daily cone.
Print companies can be used to create Flyers and other materials informing the community of this ceremony, accomplishment, and milestone as a way to potentially promote a “healthier” aspect of eating an ice cream cone a day.
