Beaches comes to shore in Oakbrook Terrace

The stage musical “Beaches” will be coming to the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace this month.

The show is based on a novel about two best girlfriends, written in 1985 by Iris Rainer Dart. A film version was released in 1988 and starred Barbara Hershey and Bette Midler, whose friendship is tested by a fatal illness, failed marriages, single parenthood, and a love triangle. The song, ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’, sung by Bette Midler, was featured in the movie.

Dart and Thom Thomas wrote the version for the stage. Music was written by David Austin and lyrics were written by Dart. Other people involved in the production are Lorin Latarro creating the choreography, Derek McLane doing scenic design, Howell Binkley conducting lighting design, Alejo Vietti creating the costumes, and Kai Harada in charge of sound design.

The Drury Lane Theatre offers seating for 971 in a proscenium style with impeccable acoustics. The theatre also has a dining room so that attendees of the shows can enjoy a gourmet dinner prior the show.

Previews start on June 24, and if the show is successful, it might make a run on Broadway. Producers may be turning to a variety of printing services to create Flyers and other materials to make the community aware of the show and generate enthusiasm for it amongst theater-goers.
