The event will host more than 50 recruits coming from the Naval Station Great Lakes. Scout troops will craft Bags filled with sweets, and volunteers will help with the heavy lifting and cleaning up. The local police chief, fire chief, and Morton Grove’s Mayor Dan will be there to make sure the recruits do not miss home too much.
Susan Martin from the Recruit Training Command stated:
“Many recruits are spending their Thanksgiving away from home. And for more than 10 years, Casey Bachara has been instrumental with the legion’s efforts in making it possible for young recruits from RTC to have a home for the holidays.”
According to Bachara, the event will go on from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm on Thursday, November 28. The recruits will be entertained by video games, music, movies, and anything else that will make them feel like they are at home. It would not be a Thanksgiving party without the turkey dinner, which will be prepared for them by Kappy’s American Grill. For dessert, recruits will be treated to five gallons of ice cream, which will be a donation from Village Creamery in Niles.
