Powerboating course for beginners to take place near Morton Grove

A 16-hour Basic Powerboat Cruising course is scheduled to be hosted in the Morton Grove area this summer.

Created by the Chicago Yacht Academy, this two-day course occurs throughout the summer every year in July, August, and September and centers on operating powerboats over 30 feet long.

Participants from Morton Grove and other communities can sign up for August’s course, which will be led by Captain Scott Souders. This thorough educational experience will include class sessions and hands-on learning out on the water. Print shops provide event organizers with an efficient way to produce an array of course materials to aid students in their learning processes.

Sessions out on the water will include dense harbor maneuvers, visual piloting, advanced docking, securing a large vessel, and intermediate anchoring. In the classroom, particpants will learn about deck safety, inboard engine Checks, liveaboard marine systems, and COLREGS.

Suitable for individuals ages 16 and older, those eligible for registration can sign up online for the fee of $850 per person. The cost registration includes all needed class materials, including Books. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a US Powerboating Basic Cruising Certificate.

This event is set to take place at Belmont Harbor in Chicago on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on both days.
