High school and local college students recently came together an effort to help those in a Morton Grove middle school navigate the world of education.
The event, which was named ‘Strike out Stigma’, saw members of the local Eye to Eye chapter provide some extra mentorship and bonding with students who have learning difficulties at Golf Middle School. Their efforts tend to be successful, as they have struggled with the same issues themselves and understand how challenging it can be.
During February, the Eye to Eye chapters from all over the country go the extra mile to not to only provide mentorship, but also help remove the stigma that can be attached to conditions such as ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia.
As part of the day’s activities, actor Chris Williams, who himself has coped with ADD, addressed the students via Skype and related the coping strategies he has found helpful. Other mentors spoke with the Golf Middle School pupils and stressed the importance of speaking with teachers and creating individualized education programs to help them achieve academic success. Promotional Pens and other items can be used to help spread the word about the organization to both students and the teachers who work with them.
