A group of young people from Morton Grove who may be interested in pursuing a future career in law enforcement recently took part in a conference where they could learn more about police work and get to know other youth who are also interested in the same career. They also had a chance to take part in some friendly competition.
The Morton Grove Police Exploders traveled to Louis University in Romeoville to take part in the event. They competed with other Police Explorer members from other communities in a variety of events, such as a mock hostage call scenario, a power test, and more. They earned a fourth place spot overall.
Commander Ed Panko, who started the program two years ago, noted that it gives teens from the community a chance to find out what having a job as a police officer is like, and also gives them an opportunity to experience working in the public service sector. While doing so, they give back to their communities. Brochure printers can work with them to produce pamphlets which can be distributed to the public that provide details about them and what they do.
The Explorers plan on attending the National Law Enforcement conference, which is scheduled to take place in 2016.
