Morton Grove area volunteers honored by Niles Township Board

The Food Pantry in Niles Township received a helping hand from some locals, and a man from Morton Grove was one of three volunteers who were recently honored with a special presentation by the township’s board for making a difference.

This group collected food that was left over after the Skokie Farmer’s Market was over each Sunday, and then delivered it to the pantry. At first, this was done by high school students Roblyn Antenor and Rose Hanks, who used wheeled carts and picnic coolers transport their loads by hand. As more food became available and the loads got bigger, Morton Grove’s Dave Hoffman got involved.

Hoffman, who was recruited to help by Trustee Mark Collins, used his truck to make trips back and forth with loads of the donations. Collins remarked that Hoffman was always ready to help, and one time when he was not able to do the driving himself, he had no problem in entrusting Collins with his vehicle so that the delivery could still take place.

Each of the three volunteers was presented with a framed certificate of appreciation for all their hard work. Items like these can be designed and printed by a Stationery printing company.

Niles Township Supervisor Marilyn Glazner expressed her appreciation in seeing the effort they were willing to put in, and said she felt inspired when she saw people so willing to give up their own time to help those less fortunate.
