A popular and multi-talented star in the world of drag will be stopping by for a screening and panel in early March. The experience is sure to be entertaining for residents of Morton Grove.
Being BeBe is a documentary style movie, with footage spanning across 15 years. It follows the story, full of triumphs and setbacks, of Marshall Ngwa, who is also known by his drag persona, BeBe Zahara Benet. While narrating over the film, Ngwa is able to share a deeply personal look at his journey to stardom, but also takes time to highlight the struggles of those who identify as LGBTQ+ in his birth country, Cameroon. Emily Branham directed the piece, winning several accolades and many praises.
Benet appeared on both the first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well as the third season of the All Stars spinoff. She took home the crown during her initial appearance.
E. Patrick Johnson will serve as a moderator during the panel and Q&A session taking place after the viewing of the documentary. He is an Annenberg University Professor, as well as serving as Dean of the School of Communication for Northwestern University, the hosting department of the event.
The venue for the show is the school's Block Museum of Art. Entry is free but places must be reserved using Eventbrite. The runtime of the movie is at 93 minutes, with the entire experience set to last for about three hours. Flyer printing is used frequently in promotion of events held at colleges, as well as for film screenings.
