Area on lookout for best Elvis

A contest looking for the best impersonator or tribute act of Elvis Presley will be taking place in early March, and it is sure to be entertaining for Morton Grove residents.

The Windy City Elvis Tribute Artist Competition is an annual event in which a group of performers come together in order to battle for the title of Windy City Elvis, as well as prizes. This is the 10th annual event, the first being in 2012, and will be also the first time the Des Plaines Theatre has hosted it.

The event was created by Joe Tirrito, who is an ETA (Elvis tribute artist) himself, and his company known as Onesti Entertainment. Flyer printing is often used in the promotion of contests like this one.

The reigning champion is Tim E. Hendry, who has won twice, and will be performing as an opener to the contestants this year. The event also features backing music from the group known as Change Of Habit Band. Tickets range in price from $39 to $59, with accessible spots being available as well. Trophies are awarded to the top five places, with first place also getting a belt and new Elvis-style jumpsuit, the last of which is donated by the business Kathy Kittle Creations. Other sponsors of the contest include Pro Elvis Jumpsuits and EP Project.

The party will take place on Saturday, March 5 in the Des Plaines Theatre’s speakeasy, with both karaoke and performances by Tirrito. The main event will occur on Sunday, March 6, beginning at 1:00 pm. Masks are currently required in order to be granted entry into the venue.
