New police training center completed

McHenry County police agencies will soon be training together at a newly completed facility near Cary.

The building, spanning 20,485 square feet and located on Village Hall Drive, was formerly the home of Cary Village Hall.

According to Erik Morimoto, the Cary Village Administrator, the renovations were limited to the building's interior because it is crucial to maintain the building's historic facade. There will be three training locations in the new Training Center. Two are classrooms and one is a room for tactical training. One classroom can seat 100 pupils, while another classroom with 40 seats will be located in what used to be the meeting room for the village board.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office recently conducted a training exercise at the newly opened facility. The 40-hour course on crisis intervention involves actors simulating various situations so cops can understand what a person is experiencing and choose the right course of action. Schedules for facilities can often be produced using printing services.

Cary, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, and McHenry police departments are all slated to use the new facility. Departments from other locations are in discussions to use it as well. Before the new center opened, police officers had to go to training institutes which were hours away. There are also plans to provide cops with training courses that they may do while on their shifts and even overnight.
