McHenry quilting group has event sewn up
This Friday and Saturday, September 28 and 29, the County Quilters of McHenry will sponsor a quilt show, called ‘Sew Many Stars’. It will feature a number of quilting demonstrations, in addition to displays of the quilters' handiwork.
A quilt appraisal is scheduled and a boutique will be available for those who wish to purchase quilts or quilting supplies. Also, there will be a ‘Quilts of Valor’ presentation on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The Quilts of Valor Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that makes quilts for American armed services members who have been “touched by war”.
Anyone who wishes can participate by making a quilt, donating materials, or, in the case of an experienced quilter, coaching a novice as they make their first quilt. The quilts are donated free of charge to service personnel and their families, and bring a comforting touch of home to those serving overseas.
In addition, Lynn Schmitt Cibulka, whose website ‘A Different Box of Crayons’ discusses quilts and quilting, will be a featured speaker.
Flyers and posters can both be used to advantage in connection with this event and others similar to it. Posters can publicize the event, hours, and location if they are placed throughout the community, while flyers available at the event itself could give details on quilting, patterns, and items for sale at the boutique.
The show will be held in Belltower Place of the Church of the Holy Apostles, located in McHenry, at 5211 Bull Valley Road. The event is open from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on Friday and again on Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. The admission fee is $6 per person.
