McHenry plastic company to stay open despite reports

An oversight led to McHenry’s Fabrik Molded Plastic being put on Illinois’ WARN report, but the company has confirmed that it was an error and it will not be laying off any employees or shutting down.

The state agency that produced the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification has also confirmed that Fabrik was placed there by mistake. According to John Ray from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the company was not sent a notice about being placed on WARN, but was placed on a report because of miscommunication involving employees.

The WARN report has since been revised. Keith Wagner, Fabrik’s president said:

“We’re an essential business and we’re making medical parts and automotive parts and we have people working every day. We are not closing. We don’t have that many employees and we haven’t laid anybody off.”

Wagner stated that Fabrik is an essential business because it is manufacturing medical supplies vital for hospitals struggling to cope with the effects of COVID-19. Fabrik typically manufactures insert molding, custom automation, custom decorating, in-mold appliques, and precision injection. The company’s Logo Design tends to feature on the Boxes of items produced at its factories.

Another of the companies that ended up in the report is Kemper Valve & Fittings Corporation. It gave notice that it was laying off workers at its Darrel Road facility so as to match the decrease in demand.
