Council negotiates how to share new facilities
With the imminent opening of the McHenry County Regional Training Center and its firing range, county officials are in discussions with other agencies and are close to agreeing on the facility's operational procedures.
The finalized agreement will outline various aspects, including the governance structure of the facilities and the extent of their utilization by other agencies. It will also address the cost implications for these agencies when accessing and utilizing the facility.
The new facility is located at the former site of Cary's village hall and comes almost two years after the village vacated it. The firing range will be situated a few miles away in a building near the Cary Public Works Department. Banner printing offers a way to promote any such new facility.
The process of converting what used to be the village hall into a new training facility began in January. Despite a ground-breaking event taking place at the site of the new range, actual construction has not yet started. The training facility is set to have a ribbon-cutting ceremony in October, and the opening of the firing range is expected in 2024.
The five agencies participating in the agreement are Algonquin, Cary, McHenry, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, and Lake in the Hills. In recent weeks, all parties involved, except for the County, have given their approval to the agreement. Under the plan, each municipality is expected to make an initial payment of $5,000, in addition to a share of the operational costs associated with each facility.
