Rachel Newcomb will become the new principal for the Chelsea Intermediate School in the Frankfort School District 157.
Newcomb will replace Doug Wernet, who will become Superintendent of the district starting next year, so both will likely need to make a change to their Business Cards.
Newcomb is currently the assistant principal at the school, a position she has held for the past six years. As assistant principal, she was in charge of social emotional learning, special education, discipline in the school, and the Multi-Tiered System of Support. She also helped to refine the instructional process and plan the curriculum, working closely with the six instructional coaches in the district and Wernet.
Newcomb expressed how honored she felt to work with such talented people and the many supportive families in the community. In her new position, she plans to continue the high-quality education provided by the school and ensure it continues to provide a positive experience for all students.
Wernet said that while Newcomb was an assistant principal at Chelsea, she played significant role in every major initiative. He added that as she has also worked in third and fourth grades in the district, she understands the needs of these intermediate elementary level students and has a passion for literacy and social emotional learning.
Newcomb starts her position as principal on Thursday, July 1.
