The Grounded Coffee Bar, owned by Sheila Raines, recently opened in Frankfort.

Intelligentsia Coffee is the brand of coffee offered, which Raines said it is a house blend. Among the varieties brewed every day are a decaffeinated blend, a light roast called a “single-origin,” and a dark to medium roast.

Raines said that the coffee types are changed every few days so customers can try the various single origin and other blends and get a sense of real coffee flavors that chain stores are not able to offer. Information is provided about each brew so customers can read about the origins of the coffee, the bean flavors, and the farmers. Printing services are often used to provide this kind of information.

Intelligentsia Coffee was selected by Raines as it is a direct trade coffee roaster, meaning that she can purchase the coffee directly from the grower. Intelligentsia is also based in nearby Chicago and is her favorite blend of coffee, but she also considers the grower to be a great company.

Other coffees offered at the shop include lattes, cappuccinos, iced coffee, and macchiatos. Pastries are also available from the shop and come from Spilt Milk Bakery in Oak Park. Cake, banana bread, muffins, and oat bars, are among the pastry choices, with peanut butter toast and avocado toast also available during the week.
