Inaugural pastel exhibit to open in Frankfort

The first Pastel Invitational Exhibition will soon be hosted by the Frankfort Arts Association (FAA) at the FAA Gallery on Ash Street in Frankfort.

Featured will be the works of pastel artists in the local area, including Ted Fuka, Marikay Peter Witlock, and Mary Ann Trzyna. Each of the artists can submit up to nine original works of pastel art.

Organizations such as the FAA might consider banner printing to attract the community to special exhibits such as this one.

Fuka has found the medium ideal for finished illustrations in his business of commercial art. He said he is looking forward to participating in the exhibit as the space is intimate and its location is central to the community.

Witlock has been working with pastels since she helped a friend to teach a pastel class 25 years ago. She has used oils before that but has found pastels to produce the same effect as oils but with more vibrancy. She primarily paints landscapes, most of which are within 5 to 10 miles of her home in Chicago Heights.

Trzyna focuses on color, form, and light in her paintings with inspiration from her everyday world.

The exhibit opens on Sunday, January 12 and will run through Saturday, February 22. A reception will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 12.
