Frankfort to hold annual fishing derby

The annual catch-and-release fishing derby will be held in Frankfort later this month.

Known as “Get Hooked on Frankfort,” the event will be held in Prairie Park in the downtown and is designed to attract the younger generation. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest fish caught and the most fish caught in each age group – one for those who are from three to seven years old, and another from eight to twelve years old.

The registration fee is $10 for non-residents and $3 for residents. The fee includes a drink and snack, bait and a fishing hook, and a T-shirt. Participants need to bring their own flagpoles. Registration needs to be done in-person at the Village Administration building by Wednesday, June 9.

Lunch and snacks will be available for purchase at the restaurants in downtown Frankfort, with discounts and savings offered at many of the historic shops. Mayor Keith Ogle expressed his excitement in being able to bring back such family-friendly events, the likes of which can be promoted throughout town with poster printing.

The event will take place this Saturday, June 12. The age group of three to seven will check-in beginning at 7:30 am and fish from 8:00 to 8:45 am. The other age group will begin check-in at 8:30 am and fish from 9:30 to 10:15 am.
