Four students from Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort are working to plan a prom for the senior class. As their high school cancelled the prom this year for juniors and seniors, Caellin Flaherty and his classmates, Annie Brtis, Sophia Martello, David Vargas, and Carolyn Whalen, are looking to organize a prom sometime in July.
Such special events are often made known to students in a school district and neighboring districts through poster printing.
This will be a private prom for which over $5,000 has been raised as of the end of April. These funds will go towards food, the cost of the venue, and a DJ. The venue has not yet been determined. Flaherty said that his group is not associated with the district. The school has not played any role in the planning of the prom.
Juniors and seniors can purchase tickets and attend the prom. Flaherty said that those who have dates from outside the district will be able to attend. He added that the community has been very supportive such that they did not want to limit who could attend the prom.
The goal of the group is to raise $20,000 towards the Lincoln-Way East Private PROM, Funds from sales of tickets are separate from this endeavor. Friday May 15 is when tickets for the prom will go on sale.
